A Photographic Journey of Mount Kilimanjaro – Day 5 Barafu Camp and Summit Attempt

Mathew, our Kilimanjaro Mountain Guide, advised us to have a lie in on day five of our 7-Machame Route Tour.

The trek to Barafu Camp would only take us three or four hours, and once there, we would be resting in preparation for our midnight summit attempt, so we had a late breakfast and left Karanga Camp at around 09:00am.

We arrived at Barafu Camp at around midday to find tents full of jubilant Kilimanjaro climbers who had just returned from Uhuru Peak. The air was filled with excitement, and while we did see a few rather depressed ‘casualties’ who had not reached their goal, we were in good spirits and felt ready for our hike to the Roof of Africa…
