Friday’s Photoshoot: Kilimanjaro Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

If you are climbing the 7-Day Machame Route on Kilimanjaro, your final challenge before summit night is the journey from Karanga Camp at +/- 4,100mtrs to Barafu Camp at 4,650mtrs above sea-level.  A relatively short hike but one that certainly takes its toll when it comes to altitude, this penultimate hurdle should not be rushed, but rather enjoyed…

If you are lucky enough to be staying at Kosovo Camp, a special use camp situated approximately 200 metres above Barafu, your journey will take a little longer on this day, but those 200 metres make all the difference on summit night, and from this prime position, you can clearly see the route all the way to Stella Point.

So close you can almost touch it, Africa’s highest peak is just a few hours away!  This is what the trek from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp looks like…
